EQ Airport Services operates a state of the art propylene glycol recovery system at EQ Resource Recovery, Inc.'s facility located in Romulus, MI (5 miles/minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport). Constructed in 1997, the system was an extension of over 20+ years of operational experience in thin-film evaporation and distillation processes used in the solvent recovery.
In addition to the 200,000 to 450,000 gallons in feed, intermediate, and finish product storage, the system consists of a Thermal Vapor Recompression (TVR) Evaporator, and vacuum Distillation Column. Supported by over 27,000 pound per hour of high pressure steam, 4.5 MBTU/Hr thermal fluid heaters, and 2,000 tons of cooling capacity the system is capable of processing fluids of all concentrations of glycols (ADF).
The Glycol Processing Unit has been designed to start at a minimum of 5% glycol content (feed), finishing with a final product of ~99.5% PG content.
In addition to the airport provided spent ADF/Stormwater, the facility also processes dilute PG volumes from industrial sources (drummed, totes, bulk tankers, and rail car volumes).
The processing unit employees 4 full time operators and 1-2 on-call associates to process the spent ADF (and industrial fluids). The operators also manage the laboratory, storage sites, and transportation services. A process operator is available 24/7 during the deicing season(s) to coordinate transportation and storage of spent ADF from all contracted sources. The operations manager for the processing unit, can assist in temporary storage requirements, equipment rentals and laboratory services.
- 10 - 15 Million Gallon per year Evaporator (at 15% - 5% feed concentrations)
- 3.5 - 4.5 Million Gallons per year Distillation System (at 50 to 70% feed concentrations)
